Corporate Social Responsibility and Organizational Survival of Oil Servicing Firms in Port Harcourt

Abstract

The study assessed the relationship between corporate social responsibility and organizational survival using Ndorama PLC and Eleme Refinery/Petrochemical Company as case studies. Relevant and related literature were reviewed on subject variables. Primary data were obtained through structured and unstructured questionnaires, personal interviews and observations. The population of the study was 624 staff members drawn from the organizations under investigation out of which a sample size of 244 respondents were drawn via Taro Yemen’s formula. A cross- sectional survey based on field study was undertaken for the research design. The simple random sampling technique was adopted. Frequency distribution tables and also statistical tools such as chi-square were adopted for data analysis of the study. Our findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between corporate social responsibility and organizational survival. The study recommends amongst others that organizations should engage in community development of their host communities, grant scholarships to indigent students and be responsible for the welfare of their staff as well as training and re-training of their employees.
